Teaching Philosophy

Lessons are created with consideration to building secure musical foundations. Good piano playing technique, musicianship and note-reading are explored and developed in equal measure, in a fun, friendly and encouraging environment.

Lessons go far beyond the traditional approach - learning by rote, improvising and composing are regular lesson activities. Beginner pupils use the full range of the keyboard from the very first lessons, encouraging freedom of movement and healthy playing techniques fro the start. Intermediate and advanced level pupils work through a wide range of varied repertoire, developing musical expression and technical skills, whilst gaining confidence in their playing and performing.

A skills-based approach is used for planning lessons and progress is made using a range of learning methods to suit the individuality of each pupil. All pupils will be working to gain the skills needed to self-reflect, ultimately leading towards becoming independent learners with a lifelong love of music and piano playing

"I just wanted to say thank you. R had given up on piano and lost all motivation. You have turned this around, he is now positive and fully engaged in his learning. I am now regularly waking to ‘jingle bells’ and often telling him to stop playing as it’s time for school!

Thanks again, brilliant!"

"An enormous thank you to you for all your incredible work. It was clear to see today what a fantastic teacher you are and how much the children love their lessons with you!

A is really enjoying her piano and it is a delight to hear her tinkering away. How very lucky we are to have you"
